As soon as you arrive in El Calafate, you realize that you have landed in an entirely different world! In the middle of the Patagonia highlands you are surrounded by a breathtaking landscape of high mountains, glaciers and ice. You are in the far southwest of the Santa Cruz province, where the most spectacular mountain range of Argentina is situated.
Thick ice masses glide slowly from the Andean peaks to lower situated valleys and form wide glacier lakes. El Calafate is one of the most famous gateways to discover the Argentinean part of Patagonia. It is beautifully located on the Patagonian Altiplano, just along the deep blue Lake Argentina and the starting point of an incredible visit to the Perito Moreno glacier.
